Best Buyer of Silver American Eagle Coin in Las Vegas & Henderson, NV

American Silver Eagle is the official 1 oz silver bullion coin produced by the U.S. Mint.  It is, at the same time, the legal tender silver bullion coin of the country. It is one of the most popular silver bullion coins in the United States and also in Las Vegas.  It is composed of 1 ounce of 99.9% pure silver and is guaranteed by the United States government mint.

History of the American Silver Eagle Coins

The start of the minting of the American Silver Eagle stems from the 1970’s when the US had too much silver on its hands.   This was known as the “Defense National Stockpile”.  Because of this abundant amount of silver, the American mint decided the best way to get rid of it (while making a profit) was to produce a national silver coin for the United States.  This was the birth of the “American Silver Eagle” coin.

In 1982, Senator McClure introduced bill S. 2598 which provides for the disposal and issuance of silver coins from the Defense National Stockpile. This was supported by a companion bill which was called H.R. 6649 as introduced by Representative Larry Craig.  But these bills were never enacted. Then, another bill of the same purpose with the previous bills, but it was not again enacted until referred to the Committee on Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs. The committee held several hearings regarding the bill.

Then, two years later, Senator McClure introduced an amendment of the previously contested bill which was later called the “Liberty Coin Act” in 1985. This act authorizes the Secretary of the Treasury to finally pursue the minting and issuance of silver bullion coins. Since then it has become worldwide-recognized for being one of the most prestigious silver coins in the world.  It is collected worldwide, and is held in high esteem.

Price of a Silver American Eagle Coin

The price of a Silver American Eagle is determined based on the following factors:

  • Weight and purity of silver. Remember that silver eagles have a purity of 0.999 as described by its fineness. Also, there is exactly 1 troy ounce of pure silver in each of a silver eagle coin. The purity and weight are guaranteed by the U.S. government.
  • Silver Premium. This refers to the percentage adjustment that is added or deducted from the silver spot price. With silver eagles, its silver premium is determined by the costs of production, refining, and fabrication.
  • Collectability. This is basically referring to the historical value that goes along with the coin. Some investors, regardless of its condition and grade, look for silver eagles for their collectible value more than their face value.  The collectability comes in especially for older versions that are in “uncirculated” condition (we will get to that later on).  These are usually pretty rare though, as most of the millions of American Eagles in the world are considered for silver spot price first.
  • Silver Spot Price. This refers to the price of an ounce of pure silver available in the market. It regularly changes as it is impacted by supply and demand of silver at the time of valuation.

So to find out what the base price of the coin is, you must reference the US silver spot price which you can find here: https://www.kitco.com/charts/livesilver.html
